Local guides, world class service We were blessed to find some amazing tour companies in Peru. SAM handled our hike to Machu Picchu and we couldn't be happier. Their guide was a local native and had real life views of the culture. He really made the hike special with all his local knowledge and great personality. Their communication was outstanding and they were extremely flexible to our needs. And the extra bonus was they ran the group trips even though it was only two of us. Please don't hesitate to use this amazing company.

An incredible experience that exceeded my expectations. The short Inca trail trip was above and beyond my expectations. Everything was so well planned and our guide Auqui was excellent, he shared so much wonderful knowledge about the history of the Incas and he was fun and friendly. Arriving to Machu Picchu this way was surreal and I am glad we chose this option as it made it feel like a real expedition. Seeing the ruins from a far at the sun gate was simply incredible and then the hike down to the ruins was so magical. I feel it was much better than just arriving at the entrance with lots of people and buses. Also the bonus of seeing Winya Waynu ruins on the way. Highly recommend this tour.

Absolutely spectacular tour by Sam Tours I was travelling in March in Peru and of course, Machu Picchu was a must see! I had planned to do the the Inca trail with Sam Travel but that was closed due to a landslide. So they offered to put me on the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu Tour. Our guide, Jhordy was absolutely spectacular. Extremely knowledgable and really interesting to listen. He really made the experience. We started on the first day going through the Sacred Valley which is awe inspiring. Machu Picchu is mind blowing. We had plenty of time to really explore. I was lucky to find myself as part of really great small group and this added to the experience. It was a little more expensive then other trips but really worth it. I would highly recommend Jhordy and the team at Sam Travel. They really looked after us.

Great Machu Picchu tour with SAM Travel Peru SAM Travel Peru hosted our MP tour. We intended to hike the 2 Day Inca Trail & MP tour however landslides closed the trail. SAM Travel gave us timely notification and offered a refund but instead we accepted their Sacred Valley tour. Sam Travel provided transportation to/from the Cusco airport and hotel, providing suggestions of Cusco sights and gave us a trip briefing the day before we left. Both Sacred Valley and MP tours were terrific! I found Sam Travel to be accomidative and adaptable to the changing circumstances. I highly recommend this agency.
Machu Picchu by Vistadome train I only had a short time in which to visit Machu Picchu so I decided to do a train trip. As a solo traveler with a not-so-flexible schedule, I had difficulty finding a tour company to accommodate me, but SAM was very willing to offer me a private tour on the day I requested since there were no group tours that day. Their team was prompt in responding to emails. The airport pickup and hotel transfer upon arrival in Cusco was a nice bonus. And the trip to Machu Picchu itself...WOW! Pictures don't begin to do it justice. My tour guide, Henry, was phenomenal. He stayed with me for about 3.5 hours, serving as photographer, historian, and overall excellent guide. We had time to visit Inca Bridge in addition to a thorough exploration of the ruins themselves. I highly recommend SAM and would definitely use them again!
Amazing trip, with incredible variety & a great guide! I loved my tour with Sam Travel in February! I was very lucky that during the rainy season we didn't get a prohibitive amt of rain during the trip. A nice, SAM van picked me right up from my doorstep and I joined a nice, small group. We went all through the Sacred Valley that day. What we got to see was so diverse and I got to learn a ton about the country on day 1 from our awesome guide, Auqui! He took great photos of us @ all the stops we made that day. SAM booked a great hotel for me and Auqui was diligently watching me to make sure I was ok with the altitude--he even carried my bag! The next day was Machu PIcchu and it was incredible!!! I learned so much and got some great photos ;-) Auqui then directed us to lunch which happened to be one of the best meals I had on my trip and even bought my my 1st Pisco Sour! The impression he and SAM Travel made on me was so heartwarming, they took GREAT care of me! I didn't have to worry about a thing, I'd highly recommend booking with them and ask for Auqui!

Very well organised, good equipment, brilliant guides and well worth the money We did the four day Wilderness Salkantay Trek. From start to finish everything was very professional and well organised. The tents and equipment seemed very good quality, and any of the staff we talked to were always very friendly and helpful. Our guide, Auqui, was brilliant and he really made the trip for us. He was extremely knowledgeable about everything on the trail, in Peru and Machu Picchu. He was able to give us very detailed and interesting information on the history of the area, and was generally very helpful throughout. I don't think he could have been any better and I would be very happy to go on another trek with him. Every meal on the trek, cooked by Leo and Javier, was excellent and some of the best that we had in Peru. We were very surprised, and impressed, at how it could be so varied and such high quality when cooked on the side of the mountain. Our porters (Alex and Pablo) were very friendly and helpful. I would 100% recommend SAM Travel - along with Auqui, Leo, Javier, Alex and Pablo - to anyone doing a trek. I don't think I could find a fault in any part of the trip. Definitely worth the money.

Great and convenient way to see the iconic place Great tour, especially if you are in a hurry. The guide Henry provided a lot of local perspectives on the various Inca sites on the way and went above and beyond to get us to as many interesting places as we could squeeze into the schedule. Big thanks for that :) The group was small - just 4 people, the tour was well organized. Not without hiccups, but the guide was babysitting us so diligently that everything resolved easily.

Machu Picchu was recognized as a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1983. UNESCO has been concerned with the increase of visitors to Machu Picchu within the last few years and worries that these crowds are causing damage. They have established new regulations for 2019 to reduce visitor traffic within this archaeological complex.

These new regulations will take effect on January 1, 2019. All visitors will now be limited to 4 hour visiting sessions. Tickets to Machu Picchu will be divided into three daily sessions: early morning (6AM – 9AM), late morning (9AM – 12PM) and early afternoon (12PM – 3PM). Within these sessions, visitors must choose a specific hour to visit. This is to regulate and reduce visitor traffic within the citadel– each hour will be limited to 600 visitors.

The new regulations will have a direct impact on: Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain (not to be confused with the citadel itself). In order to enjoy your tour of the citadel and hike the additional mountains, you will need to purchase an extra entrance ticket to the ruins extending your time allowed inside. This means that Huayna Picchu tickets will go up from $35 per person to $75 per person

All tours include the entrance to Machu Picchu but, in order, to hike Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, you will need to purchase an additional Machu Picchu entrance ticket with the Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu permit, which will cost a total of $75 per person. These new regulations will come into effect starting January 1, 2019 and will apply towards all tours. If you have booked Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain with us and do not want to pay the higher fee, please contact us at:

These are new regulations that will take effect starting January of 2019, keep visiting our page and social sites for more information or updates on these regulations.
