What language is spoken in Peru?

The official language of Peru is Spanish with 82.6% of the population speaking Spanish, one of many dialects of Spanish. In Peru, there are 47 indigenous languages with Quechua (13.9% of the pop.) and Aymara (1.7% of the pop.) being the two most common.

Is English spoken in Peru?

English is spoken in most tourist areas, but it is not widely spoken throughout Peru.

What currency is used in Peru?

Peru’s currency is the Nuevo Sol. The coins are five, ten, twenty and fifty cents. Coins of 1, 2 and 5 sol and bills of 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 sol are also available.

Do I need a visa to travel to Peru?

A visa is not required when travelling as a tourist from Canada or the United States for up to 90 days.

When is the best time to travel to Peru?

May through September is the best time to travel to Peru. Although this is their winter, this is also considered their dry season with more sunny days and cold nights.

Is there transportation within Peru?

Transport in Peru’s main cities mainly consists of local buses and taxis. In Lima, they have a subway system called the Lima Metro. To travel between different regions, it is always best to fly. In the Andean region, from Cusco to Lake Titicaca, there are also train journeys that allow you to enjoy the beautiful scenery while you travel comfortably. It is important to mention that the only way to access Aguas Calientes is by train. This is the closest town you reach before visiting the famous Incan citadel of Machu Picchu.

Is Peru a family-friendly destination?

Peru is an excellent destination to visit with the family as the facilities, culture, and activities are perfect for a family trip. In Peru, both adults and kids can learn about different cultures, history, and archaeology, admire magnificent scenery, try local food, visit llama or alpaca farms and local markets, go on explorations to the Amazon, swim in the Amazon rivers, or sandboard in the desert.  Verified Incredible 1-Day Sacred Valley Tour We loved our 1 day Sacred Valley tour. Our guide Ray and our driver Fortu were great! Ray answered all of our questions about Peru history, politics, society so in-depth. Such an incredible guide! We also felt in great hands with Fortu as our driver. We had been on a couple other tours where the driving was a bit nerve wracking but Fortu made us feel very safe! We also really appreciated how Ray took photos for everyone in the group!

 Verified A tour review from someone who normally avoids tours. A friend and I had planned to visit Machu Picchu in March 2020. Finally we got around to rescheduling our trip and chose SAM travel. I am not one for group tours but have to say, if they were all like this, I would do more! We were so well handled before arrival by Eddy it faces us ease. My friend was coming in from CA and I was coming from MA so he was awesome handling our different schedules and questions. Our first day with Ray as a tour guide was amazing. He was knowledgeable, skilled with all our cameras and aware of the fact we wanted more than photos but a true understanding of the culture. Futura handled the winding rides in a way that comforted me even when I should have been nervous. We have days left in our trip but we are so happy and talked with others on the tour expressing the same. Highly recommend this company. Family owned and employing locals.  Verified Private sight seeing day in Sacred Valley William and Antonio took great care of us. Prompt, informative and helpful. It’s a full day of driving and sightseeing but you will see a lot! It was just the two of us, our guide and driver. Highly recommend over a big group tour.

 Verified Machu picchu with Ray Such a good experience, we my husband and i supposed to do the short inka trail but for weather problems it was shut down but sam travel helped us to do other activities and still visiting Machupicchu.Our guide Ray was beyond of his jon helping and explaining everything btw, good photographer and very professional.

If you love photography and wonderful views, the Inca trail of 4 days and 3 nights , is the perfect option; I went to photograph and film as is the crossing through this wonderful trail and I was marveled, Ray, is a very professional guide in his explanation and Fortunato the cook, along with team, left us delighted with the food.
